President's Message...
Subluxation Protection
It’s amazing to me how many Subluxation “deniers” there are out there. I had no idea. I knew there were many chiros who chose not to follow the “subluxation” path and stay on the side of musculoskeletal practice, but had no idea that so many actually do not believe the 120+ years of research and practical knowledge and say there is no such thing as a subluxation. As I have gotten more involved with politics through the GCC and the ICA, my eyes have been opened.
Recently, in Berlin Germany, at a WFC conference, a good example occurred. A presenter, whom I will leave nameless at this point, on the research committee for the WFC, gave a presentation on how using x-rays to help determine subluxation (“or whatever it is they are looking for”) is “total rubbish.” He was putting down Life University for opposing the ACA’s Choosing Wisely x-ray report which basically discourages chiros from taking x-rays for most of the reasons for which you and I take them. Thankfully, Life U chose to oppose the ACA Choosing Wisely document, as had the ICA and the GCC previously.
This started some conversations on Facebook where people were coming out of the woodwork denying the very existence of our profession and what we do and see on a daily basis. Thankfully, the GCC, as the Georgia ICA affiliate organization, along with the ICA are working hard to protect and promote subluxation based chiropractic in Georgia and throughout the world.
Dr. Steve Welsh, newly elected ICA president, recently sent a strongly worded document calling for the ousting of certain speakers within the WFC due to their stances. It will be interesting to see how this plays out; we will keep you updated as it unfolds. Here is the press release from the ICA and a link to the letter. Please take a moment to read it.
This past weekend also saw the election of Lifetime ICA member, Dr. Karlos Boghosian, from the floor to become the President of the FCLB (Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards). This was a great event for the principle!
GCC had our 2nd annual Cinco de Chiro at the home office this past weekend. What a powerful, well attended meeting of fired up chiropractors, students, staff and families. Special Thanks to our speakers Nikolai Young, Dr. Sherra Conde, Dr. Cathy Wendland-Colby and Dr. Awais Butt.
Please join us June 8th for our first annual Chiro Cornhole tournament at the home office in Marietta. We've signed on with Peach State Cornhole to bring you a top notch event. It’s gonna be a blast! And of course our 2nd annual ChiroCup Golf Tournament is October 8th with plans underway to bring another fantastic event at Bentwater Golf Club. GCC Dr Tim Langley Memorial Chiropractic Scholarship Fund
Dr Tim was our colleague, long time GCC member, recent Board Member and Legislative Chairperson, and our Chiropractic Brother. He was always a willing mentor to any chiropractic student who came his way; taking them under his wing, guiding and teaching them in the ways of Dr. Sid Williams and leading them on the path of principled chiropractic. In his honor and with his family's blessing, the Georgia Council of Chiropractic is raising funds to establish the GCC Tim Langley Memorial Chiropractic Scholarship Fund.
We commit to using this scholarship to continue helping students in a manner that would make Dr Tim proud. All funds donated will go to chiropractic student scholarships. Please give as much as your heart leads you to give; our goal of $25,000 will establish the fund in perpetuity, allowing Dr Tim's legacy to impact many generations of future chiropractors.
