President's Message

Doing it in a Big Way!

I believe that deep down most chiropractors want to wake up tomorrow in a world that has fully accepted the subluxation-based care model.  We have dreamed that our offices are full of people that see vital importance in having their spines checked regularly. Our legislators want to make sure we have well  protected rights to care of our patients.  The average family in our community is valuing chiropractic as if it is one of the basic utilities like water, electricity,  cable, etc. This is still a dream for now because currently utilization of chiropractic care is stagnant at a few single digit percentage points. 

Within this atmosphere however, we are seeing  subluxation-based practices thriving everywhere in the world. These practices are serving lots people on a weekly basis for non symptomatic care. The one thing that I have witnessed with such practices is that the lead doctor has a big vision for chiropractic. A vision that is bigger than just their own office and is based on everyone living a Subluxation free life. Such individuals are serving chiropractic on many different levels and the GCC wants them to be recognized for their efforts.

Every year we vote on GCC'S chiropractor of the year to celebrate such an individual.  If you believe you know such an individual in our profession, and they are a current GCC member, please let us know as we want to make sure that we have them on our ballot to vote for GCC's 2015 Chiropractor of the Year. The nomination process is open to all current GCC members. If you are not currently a member, please join the GCC and support our efforts in promoting chiropractic to the citizens of Georgia, protecting your right to practice subluxation-based chiropractic now and in the future, and protecting the unique identity of chiropractic and the chiropractor in our great state!

Promoting the Pediatric Practice

One of the main questions I get almost on a daily basis is; “How can I get more children in my practice?”.  There are many ways of building the pediatric practice, some more obvious than others.  Growing from referrals within the practice itself is always one of the better methods of promotion.  We will review methods to help educate parents and stimulate growth from within our own practices. 

Visual

Let the patients see that you care for children.

• Have a play area for kids in the reception room or in a close proximity so people can observe it.
• Have photographs up of children being adjusted at eye level for adults and other children.
• Have a child’s adjusting table in the reception room.
• Have lots of posters and brochures up regarding chiropractic care for children.

Audient

• Have videos playing regarding chiropractic care for children.  Dr. Claudia Anrig sells an excellent video.  This way even if people aren’t watching, they will hear the message.
• Have tapes playing with messages about kids between the music.  Either make up your own or buy some.
• Give audiotapes to parents about care for kids.  Dr. Jeannie Ohm sells a tape called “Mother to Mother”, which is wonderful.

Kinesthetic

• Have dolls and child size spines available for people to touch and learn from.
• Demonstrate the pressure used on a child’s adjustment.  Touch the parents on their arm with your pinkie and show how light the kid’s adjustment is.  Tell them, “if the baby is asleep, many times they don’t even wake up during an adjustment.”

One of the best times to promote need of care for children is during the report of findings of the parent.  When the parent views their own x-ray, and sees their own need of care, then ask them, “Do you have any children?  Do you know how sometimes the MD will ask to check your children in case of family tendencies?  Well, we should also check your children because there may be a family tendency with the lack of spinal alignment that you have.  If you bring them in within the next two weeks, I’ll check them for subluxation for no charge.”

This is a very good opportunity to get the kids checked.  Another good time is during the patient orientation.  If your orientation is clear, you should be able to close with an emotionally stimulating ending which touches the parent’s hearts.  I always close my orientation by giving the parents the same type of offer above. 

Of course, you have the marketing promotions like: Talk to midwives or doulas, Scoliosis screening, mall screenings, Facebook advertising etc.  I do find that we have a huge referral base that go basically untapped unless we take the initiative.
