President's Message...
Has the Principle Changed?
 Wow, there is a lot going on in the GCC world right now! Excitement and growth are palpable as the GCC STAYS the course that Dr. Sid set for us almost 40 years ago. As some organizations have tried to become more principled, and others have become less principled, the GCC has remained THE voice for everything CHIROPRACTIC! The principles that the profession was founded on are the same today as they were in 1895; they have not changed, and neither has GCC's support of the principle. Human understanding and science are just starting to catch up.

-LEGISLATIVE:
There are two bills that were introduced last session that the GCC is in support of.
- SB 28 (http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/en-US/display/20192020/SB/28) is a Copay equality bill and
- HB 9 (http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/en-US/display/20192020/HB/9) is a Lien law.
Both would prove beneficial to our members. Please call your legislator and ask for their support of these bills. Here’s a link to find out who your representatives are…https://openstates.org/find_your_legislator/
-Also it has been brought to our attention that the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners is attempting to change some verbiage in their statutes that insert the term Chiropractic Medicine multiple times. We are extremely concerned by this and are actively looking at our options to fight this if necessary.

***Legislative Update*** Right before we sent this message we got word that the new rules would not include the term Chiropractic Medicine. Comments had already been received from principled chiropractors and the proposed changes have been edited. This is definitely a win for principled chiropractic. Here at the GCC we will continue to keep abreast of legislation that has potential to affect the profession and will always stand up to protect chiropracTIC.
-In addition, although not a chiropractic bill per se, HB 816 (http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/en-US/display/20192020/HB/615) is likely a concern for most of our members.
“(b) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a minor who is 16 or 17 years of age shall be authorized to receive a vaccination without parental consent."
“Without parental consent” is not a good way to make any healthcare decisions for minors. The wording seems to leave the door open for 16 and 17 year olds to be vaccinated without their own consent.
We would like to invite all our members to present their patients with this new law and see if they are for or against it and to take action accordingly.

Workers' Compensation law that benefits all chiropractors... back surgeons required by law to tell patients about massive surgical failures due to opioid crisis
Ohio Workers’ Compensation now requires all doctors speaking with patients about having lumber spinal fusions to discuss the issues addressed in the this document and both parties have to sign the document.
The reason is that fusion patients have such a high risk of opioid addiction… but, you have to read and use the information in the body of this document… you won’t believe the highlights, the document states:
- Lumbar fusion for disc degeneration, herniation, or radiculopathy is associated with a SIGNIFICANT INCREASE in disability, opiate use, prolonged work loss and poor return to work status.
- The use of hardware doubles the chance of another surgery.
- Surgical patients were only able to return to work 26% of the time as opposed to 67% return to work with non-surgical care.
- Re-operation occurred in 27% and 36% had complications with their original surgery.
- NARCOTIC USE IN FUSED PATIENTS INCREASED 41% AND CONTINUED OVER TWO YEARS IN 76% OF PATEINTS… THAT IS 3 OUT OF 4!!!
- SURGICAL FUSION IS NOT BETTER THAN COGNITIVE AND EXERSICE THERAPY
 These are amazingly strong facts to help support the use of chiropractic care… we need our leaders to get after this!!!

GCC Dr Tim Langley Memorial Chiropractic Scholarship
What is the GCC Tim Langley Memorial Chiropractic Scholarship? It is a D.C. st udent scholarship that is awarded at least one time per year to an exceptional student who exhibits many of the qualities that Dr. Tim Langley thought to be important for all students to possess. Those qualities include, but are not limited to:
-Active participation in organizations such as the GCC (or equivalent state association), Dynamic Essentials, the ICA, and other organizations that support and protect the principles of ChiropracTIC!
-A dedication and desire to serve their future communities through pure, unadulterated principled Chiropractic care.
-A dedication to learning, in great detail, the principles of chiropractic.
-A strong ability to communicate chiropractic through a simple and easily understood message.
Why should I give toward the scholarship fund? Dr Tim was our colleague, long time GCC member, recent Board Member and Legislative Chairperson, and our Chiropractic Brother. He was always a willing mentor to any chiropractic student who came his way; taking them under his wing, guiding and teaching them in the ways of Dr. Sid Williams and leading them on the path of principled chiropractic. In his honor and with his family's blessing, the Georgia Council of Chiropractic established the GCC Tim Langley Memorial Chiropractic Scholarship Fund. We commit to using this scholarship to continue helping students in a manner that would make Dr Tim proud. All funds donated will go to chiropractic student scholarships. Please give as much as your heart leads you to give; our overall goal of $25,000 will establish the fund in perpetuity allowing Dr Tim's legacy to impact many generations of future chiropractors.
